Black lies

These words came to me in my sleep.
Thoughts that are painful, thoughts that I dread.
Though I’d shrug, wished I’d let them rot under the rug.
No one, not I, ever managed to sneak away from the truth.

When white lies turn black,
They will haunt you in your dreams.
Awake, you can tell your dirty lies to all.
Once the dark creeps in, the truth no longer hides.

I have made a few mistakes in the past.
Idiotic things I did, idiotic things I am not proud of.
Ignored through the day, though I’d master that every day.
No one, neither you nor I, was ever capable of escaping the truth.

Our white lies turn black at night,
Silently, becoming unbearable nightmares.
Awake, we find ways to give Truth the cold shoulder.
Once the dark creeps in, come alive, it shall no longer hide.

Don’t want to play this game no more.
Don’t want to stretch the truth any longer.
Don’t I want to sleep tight, fall sound asleep every night?
Naked. Exposed. Will I finally unfold?
